Default What is a team?

I have not found a good answer, so I'll ask it here. A team is what? Just a competition thing? We all fold still for Overclock.net right?

Correct. It is just a competition amongst various lower-powered folders. However, all of the points are just added to the OCN total as well. The first team thread sticky tells all you need to know.

All fold for the cause yep The 'teams' are to add the competitive edge
Teams can consist of 8 CPUs, (dual core counts as 2 cpus)
Check the stickies for a list of monthy prize winners

Oh sweet thanks guys. I read through the stickies before posting this, but for some reason still didn't understand it. I guess it's because it gets a bit techy. I'm new to folding, (12Wu's done) using the graphical client. I tried the SMP, but it was not adding to my WU list, and I was not comfy running it.

Get that SMP running! Especially with your Quad. SMP plows through WU's. Regular clients frolic through WU's. When you setup SMP be sure to put your name you already use with folding and the team number. You should feel completely comfortable using it. I have been using it for about 8 month in Vista 32 and 64bit. Very little problems. My C2D has been running 3.2-3.4ghz 24/7 at 100% load running SMP for 6 months. It still running strong.

What is Folding@home? What is protein folding?

Folding@home is a distributed computing project, that very simply stated, studies protein folding and misfolding. Protein folding is explained in more detail in the scientific background section.

Distributed Computing is a method of computer processing in which different parts of a program, or different portions of data, are processing simultaneously on two or more computers that are communicating with each other over a network, or through the internet.
