Yeah, that's what I figured, thanks. I'm just wondering how everyone is getting so many points but has fewer work units completed than I do. Is that directly because of folding through Linux or does the processor play a bigger role?

YOu just started SMP... right?

SMP WU's are mostly 1760 points a piece, while the 'normal' ones are like 360 a piece. Plu, the SMP ones go faster also.

I am doing the VMWare/Linux thing in Vista 32-bit, and it folds like mad for me. Just over 16 hours for a 1760 point WU.

Your performance will be significantly less though, given your CPU... Core 2 Duo simply outfolds the AMD X2 by quite a margin.

Oh ok, thanks for the specific information. Yeah, I just started SMP with Vista 32-bit a couple days ago. Before that, I was using two instances of the text based console. Does the VMWare/Linux folding outperform the regular Vista folding by a good amount too?

Makes sense that the Core 2 would outperform my 5200+, especially since mine is at stock right now and the Core 2's are better. Will the Intel Quad outperform the Core 2 in SMP, since only 2 cores are counted towards team competitions?

The Intel Quad will do so, but you'll need to do it in Native Linux, or use Windows SMP. The VMWare thing doesn't work with Quads afaik.

In terms of performance:
1) Core 2 Quad, native Linux
2) Core 2 Duo, native Linux
3) Core 2 Duo, VMWare/Linux
4) Core 2 Duo, Windows SMP
5) X2, native Linux
6) X2, VMWare/Linux
7) X2, Windows SMP
8) Four console clients on a Quad
9) two console clients on a Core 2 Duo
10) two console clients on an X2

VMWare/Linux does outperform the Windows SMP client by abou 15%-20%. Native Linux is a little faster than the VMWare/Linux solution, but the differences aren't that shocking.

VMware does indeed work for quads (you just use two Linux clients within VMware), and I fully expect that WinSMP does as well.

You only need to run one instance of WinSMP, it uses all 4 cores. I don't know what the point difference is between the two SMP's. I'm getting about 2 WU's done per day @ 3.6Ghz, 3000+ppd with these 1760's.

You only need to run dual instances through VMWare since it only handles 2 cores per instance. On all of the clients, multiple instances can be run for point smoothing, but I've never really seen much of a point in doing that myself.
