I'm back folding again. They have some new SMP projects that are ALOT faster than the older ones. The one I'm currently doing will give ~1850PPD.

I think we'll have december in the bag.

EDIT: I'm going to get a new CPU cooler, the Thermalright Ultra 90. Should get it sometime in January.

I've made a decision regarding my folding effort... I've decided to revert to windows folding, at least for the time being.

The reason is simple; Linux 64 bit is just to limited for the stuff I do. I've thought about it recently and I actually even tried Linux again (turned a 650+ pointer).

So I'll still fold 24/7 and I'll still be an active member (of course!). Just won't be bringing in as many points as I have....

At least we know what SMP is capable of, and should the competition get stronger, I'll sacrifice some windows time for SMP.

Now, it's time to start it up again!

Lol, same here, if I didn't need a PC for anyhting else, I would totally be running Linux. Even before this SMP thing, certain distros of Linux consumed a lot less resources. Microsoft would be dead by now if Linux was given the same software selection as Windows.

Alright, I just finished installing the BT... looks like I've seated it properly: I dropped my folding temps from 48 to 45. If I crank the fan though, I'm hitting 41!

I actually increased my OC too: I'm now at 3.25GHz... I'll try and push for 3.3!

The BT is a pain to install though: removing MOBO, etc. Plus I've made some mistakes: I forgot to use the standoffs included and used my fingers and a screwdriver instead but it works great.

Anyway, I'll try for 3.3, if my ram takes it, and then we'll be rolling.

Jimmy

EDIT: I wanna win December. We're close in the races, so I'm folding SMP for the rest of December. And for january. The heck with windows!

I'm back 100% ... team core is apparently beating us by less than 250 points.

It's hard to see but I'm putting out 900PPD per core. Not to shabby

We'll win December if it kills me.... shoudn't have stopped folding for a full week in december.

Those are pretty decent temps...Would you say a C2D would run cooler than an A64? I get a consistent 45C with my Freezer 64 Pro, with full load, and a room temp of about 70F.

C2Ds do run cool, given the overclock you get. After all, I'm at a 75% overclock. Bear in mind that I slapped on the FM121 on the BT, so that helps too. I'd say it DOES get warm, but not like the preslers lol. I switched my AC7 from my sig rig to my D915 and it made a huge diffrence from stock cooling (D915 was at 53 in speedfan, now it's at 46, but before intel fan was at 3500RPM, AC7 is only at 1400RPM)

I don't have any experience with A64, so I couldn't compare.

Well I have the same cooling setup as Jimmy on my A64, BT + FM121, and with a 62% OC I'm running 38C while folding. 39C while running Orthos.

You may have noticed if you check folding.extremeoverclocking.com that I have had instability issues. Actually, it wasn't because I've over-OCed the Opty (like always). It's the Dell at work this time. I turned down the CPU usage from 100% to 75% so that it doesn't run so hot. If anybody thinks they have a folding rig that can outperform a P4 3.0 running at 75%, speak up and I'll back down to 2 CPUs.
