I was looking for a small, portable AC unit that I could use for just one room and I thought this might be a good place to ask since it would lower the ambient temp for my rig. Has anybody found a good, cheap AC for less than $100 that would be sufficient for just one room?
Also, I saw swamp coolers (evaporative) being sold online. Would these be efficient at all? Would they create too much moisture to have in the room with my PC? Has anybody ever made one themselves? So let the fun begin. Cheap ways to cool a single room.

You can definitely get a window air conditioner from Home Depot for less than $100. Are you in the USA?

I don't have the right windows for a window AC unit and if I put it indoors it would be messy I think.

Swamp cooler is for outside/inside use. Body outside, vent inside. And cause huge amounts of moisture. They need to be feed a constant amount of water.
With an AC unit is causes moisture and needs a drain of some sort. So needs to be placed in a window.

They make panels so the window ac will fit just fine. Also, I would stay away from a swamp cooler(evaporation cooler) because it puts alot of moisture in the room. So I would use the window unit.

Shoot, I was hooping I coold possibly do an evap system like a few of the water coolers do. Though I don't know if it would be efficient enough for a small room. Ah well.

What kind of window do you have? They are pretty flexible. Do you have those crank out windows? How big it it? It needs to exhaust the hot air and moisture.

Get a portable ac unit on craigslist. I see them going for sub-$100 sometimes when people are selling items due to moving.

I was in a similar condition as you. The window in my room folds out and cant be used with a regular air unit air conditioner. I finally gave in and bought a floor unit air conditioner. I have it rigged up through a dryer vent that i put in my wall going outside. It was a fun project that required some help, but was so worth it after it was all done. This is the unit I got:
http://www.amazon.com/000-BTU-Portab.../dp/B001THVNUO Cools very well and it's at a lower price than when I bought it. It disperses most moisture through the air, I usually only have to drain the reservoir two or three times per summer. I highly recommend it

Bit less than two feet wide I think. And it is a crank window. I have central AC but my room is left out of most of the cold air due to its location. Hottest room in the house.
