Hi all
I'm having an MX2 type of day. I replaced the TP on my CPU and my GPU. (The GPU was a mess) so now I'm looking at the MB next as it is the hottest thing in my setup, 50c. couple of questions before I get into it. 1 Is it easy enough , do I just unscrew the plastic lugs , or do I have to take out the MB. 2 Is there thermal paste or pads under there ? These are the heatsinks.

The plastic clips need to be undone from the back of the board, they do not unscrew.
I have seen both pads and TIM.

Yep, those are push pins.

You have to squeeze those black pins from the back of the board out. Then just wipe off the remaining TIM and put on new ones.

there will proberly be Paste on the north bridge and a pad on the mosfets seeing as the mosfets are individual chips they are sometimes not exactly the same height something to remember if you are going to try to use tim on them and if you do make sure it is non conductive as some have the connections to the board on the side of them

in my experience the NB/SB will have paste and the MOSFETS will have pads.

Thanks for the replys
My problem is , the pads are hard to get here, and good ones are even harder to find. I'm not sure if it's worth to rip my MB out to do that tiny SB.

SB cooling shouldn't be an issue. The 790GX chip might benefit from new thermal paste though, and you should be able to reuse the MOSFET pad.

Take the pins out and they will come off usually
Usually there is tape/pads on the mofets and TIM in the NB itself If it has just been warm it is generally easier to get off The pads can be re-sued - just try not to get them dirty at all Try with a fan sucking from the heatsink if it isnt making a difference - the NB is usually in a bit of a dead spot
