It's not the mirrior that makes it good, it's how flat it is. Take an Exacto Knife blade and hold it against it, and while doing that hold it up to a light source and see if any light shines through

Make sure you have it on a flat surface, as the mirror will bend. It's not a "certified flat" surface, but it will probably be better than the factory finish on your heatsink. I have used a plate glass mirror (until I stepped on it and ended up with a bunch of plate glass mirror fragments). I currently use the glass from a cheap picture frame with great results.

He means "Will plate glass be a suitable lapping surface".
The answer is yes, as long as it has no marks/cracks/defects and it's on a nice solid surface.

And as kaivorth said, an Exacto knife or Razor blade is a great way to test the flatness of your lapped CPU.

Once it's flat, then you can use the higher grits to get that nice polished look.
It's just a look mind, a dull flat CPU will perform far better temp wise than a shiny "still rounded" CPU surface.

400, 600, 800, 1000, 1200 should be all you need.
1500 + 2000 to polish if you really want.

Good luck mate!
