this may be a stupid question but i just found out about lapping today so i dont know much at all about it

do you still need to use thermal paste if you have a lapped cpu and heatsink?

a simple yes or no will suffice

The purpose of thermal compound is to fill the microscopic voids between HSF and CPU. If you were to look at either under a microscope they have small voids. Thermal compound fills these voids and transfers the heat better than if you just had a bare heat sink. Use it for sure.

btw how much will it actually lower my temps?

is it like a 10 degree drop or like 3-5 degree

Depends on many things but you will see a 3-6C drop in temps
