I just wanted to know how do you guys remove your thermal compound. Is there any round-the-house products that you can use like nail-polish remover or anything? as I really have no idea and I don't have any of these chemical stuff laying round the house :P

I personally use a paper towel to hold the CPU then gently/lightly run nail polish remover on it. If you get anything on the bottom of the CPU just leave it for 24 hours to dry out and then drop it on the mobo.

80-90% rubbing alcohol with some cue-tips works great!
Antec sells some stuff that will dissolve thermal paste too, its on Newegg for about $5.

Rubbing alcohol and high density paper towels.
edit: Take it out of the mobo. Dampen a paper towel or other cloth with the rubbing alcohol. (try to use 90%). (preferably something that doesn't leave any lint) Wipe off the compound using new towels as needed. Do the same to the heatsink and voila.

You can just use a paper towel, but that takes a while and it doesn't give the best results.
If you've got a mom or sister, you can use nail varnish remover to get rid of it, it's what I use.

Hmm, i don't really have any of that stuff i don't think, and was just wondering is there an easy option with some things i might have around the house. Would just wiping it off with a paper towel work?

lol Guess ill just use that then thanks ![]() Also, do i just put a tiny bit of nail varnish remover onto the paper towel just to make it slightly damp then wipe it, and then wipe it with a dry paper towel? is that correct? EDIT: and its also ok just to use the same technique on the heatsink? Oh and also, i should take the cpu out of the mobo right? Just checking, i dont wanna mess it up
