Default How To: Repair a broken Socket 423 HSF mount!

First of all, I don't think very many people use this socket anymore. But for anyone who's got an old motherboard such as mine, and would like to use it again just for the sake of having that extra computer in your house, but is unfortunate enough that the HSF lever hook happens to be broken or snapped () you might find this guide of use. And it's very simple!

So, let's get to it. First off, you'll need:

A clamp
A drill
1/16in drill bit (or 1,59mm, for those metric folks out there)
A small nail
Glue or cement of some sort (optional)

Step 1: Unscrew the broken lever and remove it from the motherboard.

Step 2: First of all, if the hook didn't break off evenly, you might want to sand it down flat so that you can drill straight. Mine broke evenly, so I didn't need to worry about that. Sorry, I don't have any images up to this point.

Step 3: Clamp down the plastic mount, and carefully drill a hole where the hook used to be. It's a small protrusion, so if you don't take care, you might crack it or break it off. Drill all the way through.

Step 4: Next, bend your small nail into a hook. It should look something like this:

Step 5: Insert the nail into the hole you drilled, and bend the end inwards so that the nail is somewhat secure. You may glue or cement it in place to ensure that it's secure.

Step 6: Reattach the mount to your motherboard. Congrats! You can now place an HSF onto your processor again!

This just seems like more of a permanent solution to me. Obviously, it's still a little sketchy...but where the hell would you buy replacement mounts? I wouldn't trust garbage ties with my processor...even an old one (so long as it operates).
