Has anyone tried lapping the sinks on the NB, SB, RAM and/or GPU's? Is it worth the trouble? Also, the die on the NB and SB seems to be quite a bit more smooth than the top of a CPU. Should you lap those or do you run the risk of messing something up really bad? Just bored at work and morbidly curious.

the only thing some people do is re-apply better tim under (nb,sb) as far as gpu if you have an after market cooler that has a big surface.

I don't see how this would be possible.

You could lap the heatsinks for the lolz. I wouldn't lap the nb, gpu, etc tho.

yeah, you can lap the sinks. not the chips. its just too damn hard to lap the chips. theyre connected to the board, so youd have to use a glass block with a taught sandpapaer, then move it a few milimeters to lap.

Go ahead and lap the heatsinks - you'll get the same result as you get when lapping the CPU heatsink as its the same principle, i.e. lower temperatures
![]() However, DON'T lap the bare cores! You can lap *some* GFX cores - the 8800 series springs to mind as this is covered by an IHS, but it's not really worth the effort TBH as it's a lot harder than doing the CPU ![]()
