Default PS2 Controller mod?

I need to make a "keyboard" out of a playstation controller so I can play a certian game properally. The "arrow" keys would need to stay pressure sensitive.

See the pic for layout. How possible do you think this would be to do?

So basically you want it to looks similar to the NES controller?

Have you opened up the PS2 controller?

If you can manage to use all the same buttons, simply re-arranging their shape is not hard at all. In a fit of rage on lap 49 of 50 on GT3 my controller managed to explode into a number of pieces. It was put back together easily enough and still works just fine. As long as you keep the original buttons and wiring, it'll be easy as pie.

It's good to hear that it's not impossible lol.

I did open up a ps2 controller last night and took a look, and some pictures (attached). Sorry I suck at focusing my brother's camera though lol. Also it's a $1000 camera, so the pics are rather large.

Can anyone link or post anything that would tell me how to go about doing this?

(edit) yay 4,444 posts lol

Okay, while OCN was down I think I got a new plan for this. I plan to cut up the pressure-sensitive thing under the keys on the "film" on the ps2 controller, and put it under the keys on a keyboard. Then reconnect the cut lines with something to the controllers "motherboard" which would just be somewhere inside the keyboard casing.

So what I need to know is, what would be good to reconnect the lines? Also, do you think epoxy would last to seal whatever to the "film"?

If anyone knows the proper term for the film stuff that would be cool too .

why not just get a PS2 (Playstation 2 that is not PS/2) to USB and remap the keys?

They don't let you remap the keys, and the layout of the controller is all wrong .

did you finish the race? Its like to 60 minute races on TDU...

You should just be able to pop open the controller, remove the keypads (the directional button pad and the XO[] ^ button pad) and epoxy them back down onto a thin piece of wood or something. Unless you want it to look good, but that just makes everything harder

keyboards are much harder to do this with, as I found out when trying to make a GH guitar out of one

The main problem with that plan is that the arrow keys are too close together.

I think I've got it all worked out now:

Take ps2 controller and keyboard apart.

Cut out the black bits under the proper keys on the ps2 controller, and attach them to an overhead projector sheet under the keys on the keyboard.

Remove the curcuit board in the ps2 controller, de-soder the joysticks, then insert it in the keyboard casing.

Use a defroster repair kit to redraw the lines on the overhead sheet.

put the keyboard membrane back, screw the keyboard back together, and hope for the best!
