Default How to: install a 40mm fan/heatsinks on a linksys router *Tons of Pics*

I just finished this mod a few minutes ago and i took some pics for you guys.

Problem:My linksys router kinda gets hot lately and my connection gets slow and get high pings when playing online.

The router is loaded w/ a dd-wrt firmware. It running stock right now coz im still reading up how to overclock it safely and not KILL it
If you know how to tweak this firmware some help would be nice

Things needed:
1.solder
2.40mm fan--I sleeved the wires for a cleaner look

2.1. 3pin housing male and female (optional)

3.Drill w/ bit(i have no idea what bit i used) just look at the pics
4.wire stripper
5.philips screw
6.long nose (To use on the 3 pin)
7.3m double side tape (Use w/ fan)
8.Wire cutter
9.If you have some heatsinks lying around its a good idea to put some on.
note: the heat sinks are very effective coz when i took it a part its very warm to the touch.

First off heres a How to disassemble the router

How to take a part the router

After taking it a part turn the router upside down and solder the -negative and +positive on its respective points

Different angle

Heres a top view w/ sinks and male 3-pin(i used the 3 pins coz if ever the fan breaks i can easily change it)

before you screw it in place make sure the wire doesnt touch the plastic.
my solution is to cut the plastic so my wire is clear (This is FOR people that sucks in soldering like ME)

I made the holes on top a bit bigger coz the stock holes doesnt cut it and the fan makes more noise w/ stock. Also in the pics is the drill bit i used to make holes
It looks really clean for me. Dont you think?

Heres how i installed the fan. I put some 3M heavy duty double side tape(This kinds of tape is the ones used for outdoor stuff like sticking House numbers)

Everything installed. Ready for testing
Thank God it works!!!!

Before closing it up. Make sure its all clear and ready to go

Now closed and clear

Snap the front and your good. If you look at the router you wont really notice the fan installed. It just shows in the pics coz of the flash
Also my fan has a bit of a high CFM so the exhaust air goes out on the bottom.

Now pat yourself on the back for a job well done Hope you guys find this useful

yeah. i just experience the high temp few days ago coz its getting warm over here. So i decided to mod my router up.

I usually see routers w/ huge 80mm fan on top. It cools the router but it looks ugly for me. IMHO Thats why i went w/ a 40mm

its loaded w/ a dd-wrt firmware since i got it.
When i had a wireless B before it kept on losing its signal after 2 days so i got fed up and bought this G.
Lately its kinda hot here and im experiencing high pings online when normally i get 10-80 on west coast servers. Also when i touch the router its bit warmer than usual

40mm is ok for me. i have 4pcs lying around so might as well use it. i normally use my headphones listening to music and browsing anyways so i cant hear it.
making the holes a bit bigger helps a lot. Coz w/ stock holes the noise is louder
