Thought I might as well post my 10 minute fan mod that I did on my PSU
![]() So here's the PSU: ![]() ![]() Its a cheapo generic 'Win Power' PSU which has a very noisy black fan, which doesn't too a good job of cooling it as it gets pretty hot. So I thought I might replace it with a £1 fan I got from ebuyer. Removing the fan guard and top cover. ![]() ![]() Fan Guard fell on cat ![]() ![]() Cut the older fan cables, cut off the molex connection from the new fan and soldered them together then electrical taped them up. ![]() Testing the new fan: ![]() And the finished product after the casing has been re-attatched: ![]() ![]() ![]() And thats it finished, its much quieter than before, runs cooler and looks a thousand times better ![]()

The cat didn't seem to care that a fan grill was on it's side
![]() I did the same thing with my Silverstone PSU, replaced the stock 135mm fan with a 140mm Yate Loon; result is significantly quieter.

Glad to see more OCNers soldering their fans instead of just wrapping the wires together

Haha. Yeah, I really actually enjoyed the soldering part when I was splicing extensions onto my PSU lines.

In mine the stock fan actually had a 2-pin header and I just pulled the pins out of the 3-pin connector on the new fan and inserted them in the 2-pin connector from the stock fan.
I would have preferred seeing the use of heatshrink as well, but as long as it's properly insulated that's what really matters.
