I just had gotten my friends computer built after several hours. For the first time, I started it up to check the bios and then get XP installed. After finishing my routine checks, I looked at the PC health status in the motherboard to see what the Q6600 was doing since I was interested in how hot it was running. I freaked, since it was running at over 100c.

Turns out that the motherboard PCI-e wire was stopping the fan on the chip. Thing's fine though, I swapped chips when I built my computer, and it's been running 3.4Ghz without problems.
Must've been a **** mobo. Most will detect a slow/non-working CPU fan and power off to protect the chip.

I've not fried a chip for about 8 years thankfully First pc I ever took apart was an old 486 desktop. I had no idea what I was doing. Must've dropped some screws or something in it because when I turned it on it made a lovely crack and started to smell like electronic sadness

I never screwed up a PC build but shipping has! TWICE!

When I ordered my 780i FTW for my sig rig, I received a crushed mobo like it fell off the trailer or something, newegg said it was EVGA's fault, EVGA gave me a either 15% off another 780i FTW or a free 750i FTW, I took the latter.

Also when I ordered my OCZ Vendetta 2 I got it in the mail with a tire track running through the box...

Wow... note to self. If I sell anything to you jumper.. Your only getting hand delivery

Your shipping people either one have anger issues that get taken out on your packages, or they are practicing kicking field goals.

Yes they do have major problems. I have had things like passport renewal shipped to wrong address in my building and than some random guy knocked on my apartment saying "Hi Mr. *********, would this be yours?"

There's my story.

I actually don't know if it's completely fried just yet. Still messing with it, but it sure seems like the board's toast.
