or some really dark automotive window tint .

depending on the tint % it might look kinda cool transmitting some of the original color underneath .

Contact paper (like the kind used in kitchen cupboards) will do as long as the unit is not overheating.

I got some flat black stuff from Micheal's Crafts for a few bucks and I still have not used it all.

get some vinyl from your local sign store. if you give them measurements they will cut it and mask it for you to make it easier to apply.
