Arrow EXTRA Storage

Hey,

Yes, the pun was intended in the name :P
Planning on creating an original mod of a chewing gum box.

The Plan:
Tape a tiny USB pen drive inside the box and use an extension USB cable to insert it into my laptop (PC).

The Items used/needed:
USB Cable: http://www.amazon.co.uk/USB-Extensio...7841509&sr=8-1
USB Stick: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...A1F8YGP86NG3IP

Queries:

Would cutting the USB cable and taping the cables together with electric tape so that the cable isn't too long work - or would it make the cable faulty?

Thanks,
Daney

The maximum length of a single USB cable is 5m using 20AWG wires.

That USB cable is probably 28-26AWG. Working with wire that thin is hard and tape may not hold.

Code:
Gauge	Max length
28 0.81 m
26 1.31 m
24 2.08 m
22 3.33 m
20 5.00 m

So this project could be in danger of exctinction?

Any suggestions on how to bypass this? The cable has to fit inside a box: 70mm(H)x50mm(W)x18mm(D).

What cable length do you need?

you might be able to find 6 in or 1 ft extension cables; if you want to shorten a longer USB cable, then I'd recommend soldering and covering the wire joints with heatshrink.
