Alright, so I have a dv9500t that I recently resurrected from the dead via a heat gun reflow on the gpu (8600m gs) [RANT: These have been failing like crazy, but HP is not standing behind their product. Support Forum (over 1000 replies)]
Anyways, I've got a couple 140mm fans that I'd like to use as a cooling pad for it. I have a few old PSU's, but they are big and bulky. I'd like a more elegant way to power these fans. Are there small power supplies I could use for this? Or is there a way to power these fans off the USB ports on the laptop?

The USB ports supply 5VDC. Most PC fans are designed to run on 12VDC and will not run correctly off 5V; though you can buy fans that are speced for 5V, which would be ideal for powering off of the USB.
Other options would be to get a 12VDC power brick (wall transformer), but this would mean that you'd always be tethered and couldn't run solely off of the battery power.
