Default Painting a DVD drive, and card reader

I'm doing a new build with the CM Storm Scout case, and I was wondering if it would be okay to paint the metal parts of my DVD drive and card reader black so that it would look good inside the case.

Just make sure you don't paint the part you insert cards/CD's.

You should be able to disassemble the drive and remove the metal case from the electronics - much safer to paint this way. Look for 4 screws on the bottom of the DVD drive along the edges. As for your card reader - should be easy to disassemble as well.

Yeah, just take apart the DVD drive first.

Or, you could just use black vinyl film.

You can do as Cathode says, or jus use some tape to mask off the parts you don't want painted. You should be fine.

The reason I suggest disassembly is because optical drives often have many perforations in the metal case which spray paint could find it's way into. Although most spray paint has been proven to be non-conductive, a stray bit of paint sticking on the exposed laser diode would render the drive inoperable.

Take it apart then paint it. You're voiding the warranty by painting it anyway, don't risk breaking it by painting it in one piece. Here's a pic of one I did. It was beige and I panted it black with a window mod and a red led. For the plastic I used a plastic paint and cheap walmart $1 black for the body and metal DVD brace.

I don't feel good after waking up each morning until I've voided at least 1-2 warranties. It helps make the rest of the day more productive.
