Default Sata power, modify cable(s)

Hi

I just before i start my modding my cable(s) the two black ones, does it matter if they change place? Or do they have to placed correctly into sata/ide connector?

Excuse my typo from time to time (from Norway)

Frode

The black wires are both Ground and can be switched.

I'd recommend that they stay in the same place as they could cause a short circuit if not in the correct location.
Duckie has proven me to be semi-wrong.
Good luck

wow, fast reply's

Ok, then i'd better modify my original psu cables then to get it correct. I've got lots of cables from other computers I thought i could use.

Maybe I'll get to do it soon

I've made a couple of times mods on sata cables, if you get the through-wire connectors is rather easy. Open the connector up, carefully remove the wires without picking out the metal connectors, push in the new wires you're going to use. I suggest to use pc cables, or at least same sized cables. If you have some psu around or such just make sure the size is the same and use those wires. Don't pre-cut the wires, just leave the connector blades to get in contact with the cable's copper, by pushing it in.

@ Andrea87

I've got all the sata connectors i need luckily Found it at disposal dump for electro stuff. Or else I would have to order them from US at a shipping cost starting at 30 dollars.. 1 dollar each..

But I've got enough of them now, just have to use the original psu cable.

I was thinking about using shrink heat tubes (black) between the connectors

One more question...

Does the power cables to sata only need one black - one red and one yellow cable? All together only 3 cables or does it need both ground (black cables)
