Default Cut the back off my PCI-E x1?

I've been toying around with the thought of adding my old 8500GT back into my system, but I have no x16 slots to put it in. Now, I've been batting back and forth on whether or not to cut the back off of one of my x1 slots as to fit my 8500GT in there. I won't be doing any gaming on it, just Physx and Folding, so the extra bandwidth will not be needed. So, I will let you decide OCN: To cut or not to cut, that is the question.

I've seen it done before, mainly in the folding section for people wanting more GPU's in their MB.

My honest opinion is get a motherboard with a extra PCI-E 16x or 2.0, but if you can't then so long as your careful cutting it won't do any damage and 1x shouldn't bottleneck a 8500gt.

Don't do it.

The 8500GT will have pitiful amounts of folding power and PhysX isn't available in enough games to risk voiding your warranty on.

Buy a x1 riser/extender and cut that.

Instead, should I cut the card? A little more risky, but an 8500GT is nothing compared to a motherboard.

What he said doesn't void warranty and is fairly cheap.
