when i used this i tried converting a VOB file to a MP4 file and I left all the settings at the default, when it was finished i tried opening it in quicktime and it says "error: this is not a movie file"? any ideas as to why it says this?

I tried this program yesterday and it would give me an error anytime I tried to convert a file. I tried converting several dvix and xvid movies to dvd format with no luck at all.

DLing now...hopefully it will give me the results I am looking for. I purchased (stop laughing at me!!!) Digital Media Converter and it has an option for custom MPEG's but I can't get the aspect ration I need. The original files are MOV's from an HD hand held digital recorder in 1280x720 and the max setting gives a 1.5 ratio instead of 1.777 and the next one down takes it to 2.5. We'll see how this does. Any tips would be helpful.

Works awesome! Love it! Can't say thanks enough...and well worth the $30 lesson of buying that other one first. I can't begin to guess how much this would be given the huge range of functionality it has.
