Default Delete Windows Messenger?

After a upgrading to Xp Pro, Windows Messenger was also installed and I cannot delete msmsgs.exe because it says "cannot delete, it is in use by another program", however I ended all applications but still no luck. I deleted it before but I forgot how to. Can anyone help me?

find it in the registry, whack in regedit in the run box (under start>run) should be in the local machine options

There are 2 ways of going about doing this; one boot into safe mode and go to the mesenger folder, under windows explorer, and add the word off to the folder name so it is messengeroff and then messenger wont load during boot up image below of what i mean. Or you can boot in to safe mode and delete the folder then, since the problem of trying to delete it while in windows is there are .dll files and you cant delete them while in windows, so the only way is through safe mode.

You can also go under control panel= administrative tools= services, and see if it is enabled there.

To get rid of the messanger, go to Control Panel --> Add Remove Programs --> on the left there will be Add/Remove Windows Components --> then at the bottom of that deselect MSN Messanger and all will be solved.
