it works on 64x fine

You don't have to, but it helps maintain a neat, continuous pagefile that loads faster. I do it from time to time......it's a good old trick.

BTW PerfectDisk's offline defrag works fine FYI. I have my pagefile on my second data HDD (OS on SATA1, pagefile on SATA2) so I can utilize both HDDs at once when loading to the RAM. If you have two drives that will help as well.

I have DK 2007 pro installed on one rig, and I am currently trying out DK2008 pro on a spare machine, and it's a great defragger. Both versions have worked without any issues whatsoever for me. They do not have any kind of file placement though; for that you have to go with the more expensive ProPremier. I don't have much experience with PD, so I can't give any detailed comment on that.

TBH, I don't know how much of a difference the file placement will make to real world performance. I know that the outermost tracks of the platter are the fastest etc, but is it worth the trouble of moving a lot of data out there (maybe repeatedly if you install/uninstall often). JMHO.

Also, you will need to let the Diskeeper file activity detection algorithm (ifaast or something it's called) run for a few days before it moves the right files, if I am not mistaken.

I think you are doing the right thing by checking out the trial versions; see which one suits your needs best and go with it before blowing $$.

BTW, to the poster above, if you are not able to get DK boot-defrag to run, maybe try running chkdsk once? Sometimes that might help. Otherwise, there is also a possibility that some other program has locked the volume for exclusive access during boot, and DK is not able to run on it.

I use PerfectDisk, seems to work fine for me, and ive read reviews on both of the programs, and PerfectDisk seems to get the vote.

So Diskeeper pro premier has file placement? So i guess after a few days of running your games you want placed in priority area it does it automatically? It is mainly two games I want placed there, Crysis and GOW, they seem to be the hardest to run at acceptable FPS on my Rig. 100 bucks is very pricey for a app though to be able to move files around
Thanx for all the input everybody.
Merry Christmas and a faster New Year

yes - automatically without you even thinking twice about it

And the pagefile (especially when you have 2-3 like I do on different hard drives) isn't recommended to delete b/c of possible errors and corruptions that can spawn from it if Vista (or XP) ever placed important data in there.
