Default How to make high quality encodes of vob(dvd) files for personal use + Ipod viewing

First off: I am not saying that anyone should go and break the law by going against the copyright of the dvd and copying it. Should you happen to find some vob files on your pc this will explain how to make high quality encodes of them to save space on your hard drive. According to the piracy thread, piracy is copying and distributing. If you don't copy the vob files to your pc or distribute them, then its completely legal. So if it is anyones opinion that this is somehow piracy please go voice your opinion in the piracy thread.

This link shows it all.

You will need megui, avisynth, and nero digital audio codec. I use this program because it is completely free and the x264 encoder uses all 4 cores on quad core cpu's.

After you install them and open megui, the first thing you have to do is go to tools / d2v creator. Select the first vob file and the audio track you need. The program itself will take care of the whole thing. You do not need to do this for every piece. After that is done, go to tools / avisynth script creator. Select the .d2v file that was just created in the last step. You will need to check mpeg2 deblocking and hit analyze for the deinterlacing. Hit auto crop and uncheck resize(unless you want it smaller ofc). Hit save and close the window that shows the picture of the movie. The scirpt is automatically put in the video input section on the main window. There are many output files to choose from. They have all sorts of qualities + an Ipod compatible mode. Once you select the one you want hit enqueue. Then click the Queue tab towards the top and and press start to get it going. For the audio you just select the input source(audio extraction that came with the .d2v file from the first step) and select which encoder you want to use. Then hit enqueue and it will run after the video is done. After that is finally finished(takes awhile) you must combine the video and audio. Go to tools/ mux /(whatever your format is). Select the new video file + audio file and queue/start it. Then you are done. I personally use the HQ- Insane setting + automated 3 pass in mp4 format. It takes a long time even with a quad core but the end result is worth it. I would rather do it right once and have high quality forever. You can ofc select xvid or the Ipod compatibility mode instead of mp4/HQ at that point. It has pretty much whatever you need.

Also if you get errors for some reason when you try to start the video encode, try going back and setting crop to all 0's. It took me awhile to figure that out but it fixed whatever problem there was.

Edit: I pref megui because I can set everything to exactly how I want it and the quality is amazing(but quality = lots of time).
