Whenever I go on steam FF and AIM stop working. I have FIOS so the bandwidth shouldn't be a problem. When I close steam everything starts working again.
Also, when I try to connect to servers, it says 1000 latency.

This could be a lot of things... Could be a configuration issue with your software (or hardware) firewall or it could be a malfunction of QoS in your router..... are you using a proxy server of any kind ...?

The only "problem" I have is that I can't afford to buy every single game they offer for download. To the OP: It is sounding to me like some kind of firewall problem. I would investigate solutions down that path.

sorry for hindering before...
There have been reports of certain ISPs blocking ports that Steam requires. I would try to change the ports steam uses, and if that isn't possible try a port forward setup in your router. Hope this one helps ![]() Quote:

I have no firewall. The router is the same router every Fios customer gets. I forwarded the ports (even tried DMZ) but it still happened. :\
Only fix is to restart the router then steam works for a couple of hours.
