I am tossing around the idea of going raid 0 on my sig rig (i'm purchasing 2 WD 640gig AALs for this)
I will be doing a fresh install of vista ultimate 64bit but i would like to know after i do a fresh install, is it possible to create an image using Symantec Ghost 9.0? I loathe doing a complete fresh install and would much rather create and image and recover to that so all I have to do is run windows update and patch. I haven't been able to find if this is at all possible or let alone a guide for it. +rep for any help on this.

I'm pretty sure you can do this aslong as your image software recognizes your Harddrive array i dont see why not.

Or would i have to create 2 images (one of each drive) and then reimage the drives then stick them on raid 0 array?

Pretty sure Ghost will pick up your raid as a single drive and only 1 image will be needed.

It is quite easy with Vista Ultimate. All you need to do is creat the backup image:
Start=> All Programs=> Accessories=> System Tools => Backup Status and Configuration Then run "Complete PC Backup". Note you will need a second HDD, A second partition or an external HDD. Make the backup by following the on-screen directions. Then when you want to restore the image, boot off the Vista Install DVD and select repair. Select the OS to restore from the backup image. At this point you have an option to "Load Drivers". So just do exactly what you do when installing RAID drivers diuring initial OS install and load them from a USB drive. Then slect the option to run the Bachup image. It takes about 15 min for the backup to restore. And thats it. it is really easy. I have done this myself to test if it works. Note: I can not restore a RAID Backup image to a single HDD (I tested this as well). I get an error staing there needs to be 2 hard drives to restore the image.

I don't use Ghost, I use Acronis True image, but it must be the samething with Ghost.
You just do an image of your windows drive as if it was a single drive, the imaging software sees your raid as if it was a single drive. If you ever have to restore the image, same thing your software will restore to the raid as if it was a single drive. Nothing special there.
