I'm more or less an amateur when it comes to 3D modeling, but it has always fascinated me. We're being introduced into CATIA V5 R18 at the university, and I had some "fun" fiddeling around with Google's SketchUp, but I feel limited by it's functions and tools.

Truespace is wonderful to work with, but that and most programs like it take some serous computing power and their expensive. unless your doing more then "fiddling" i wouldn't waste my time with them.

i used to muck around with it a while ago, but i had no idea. Bryce was kinda fun, although its more rendering and wireframes than actual modelling.
EDIT: should probably add, Bryce wasnt technically free..if you catch my drift.

Is 3DS Max easy to use? I heard Lightwave is supposed to have a high learning curve....

I'll give it a try, thanks. 3DS Max is the most widely used and popular anyway...
