Erring on the side of caution is nothing to be ridiculed about.
[edit] Not directed at anyone, just blabbing whatever comes to mind....

Avira is good. Freeware
Pros: light on resources. Has near enough top spot for detection rates of all AV's, free or payed. Scans quickly Cons: Occasionally gives false positives, Annoying pop-up when you update (there is a fix for this) Set Guard heuristics to medium, protect Write To Drive. Firefox and NoScript will knock off the chances of getting hi jacked while visiting all those porn sites and stuff. NoScript is great protection. Malwarebytes & Superantispyware are really good back up occasional scanners. ATF Cleaner and CCleaner are good to use now and then to clean out temp files. |

I use Eset Smart Security 4.0 (had 3.0 before that) and have had no problems with it, it has caught a few viruses in the past. Also, Eset is very light on resources unlike some of the other Anti-Virus software.
