What do you value more? faster encode or higher quality? and no, you can't have the best of everything.

I value the fast encode, because these videos are to be converted for the Cowon S9, which has a resolution of 480x272 I believe.

I tried mediacoder, and it does use all 4 cores, but avivo is still faster. Any other ideas?

I use nero vision for avi to dvd. (roughly 25 min)
I use dvd rebuilder with 2 pass qnce for dvd9 to dvd5. (roughly 35 min)

Both are quality. I dont go for speed, these programs have been around a while and I used to encode on single core and dual core with them taking an hour plus. So with a Q @ 3.6 they are fast to me..

eh

What I use to convert videos is Coma's youtube HD converter. (32-bit/64-bit)

----

However if your not looking to upload to youtube. I use x264vfw to convert just general tv shows and movies that come from the DVD. CRF @ 13.0 to 15.0 is the best result. Good thing is it supports many threads so you can use that Quad core to the max
