Default Firefox trouble

Ok i am out of ideas of how to make firefox open web pages. I updated it on a laptop and i get "Unable to connect" page. I can only get it to work in Windows XP Safe mode. Windows XP firewall is off. Internet explorer works as normal
I have tryed
Reinstalling it
disabling all start up programs
disabling all services.
Computer was running only on 21 windows processes and still it wouldn't work.
Searched online found no solution. Please someone help me. Rep will be given who will solve my problem.

When you say you updated it, do you mean you're now using the latest version of Firefox? If so, then it looks like the only option is to use the previous version that you were using before. I'm recommending this while simultaneously hoping that it was at least version 3.5.0. Either way though, there's really nothing wrong with using a slightly older version. I'm still using 3.5.1..

By the way, I'm not replying just because I would get a Rep if I solve the problem. To me, offering or promising Rep like that is all too similar to promising a dog a treat if it does a trick for you, or if it obeys your command. As far as I know, nobody here is a trained animal. We're all in this together.

You sure you don't have malware that is preventing internet access through firefox? I suggest a scan in safe mode with Malwarebytes and Spybot to see if they come up with anything. There are several pieces of malware that prevent internet access, though they usually block it through IE too. If the scan comes up clean:
1. Uninstall Firefox
2. Delete the installation directory, sometimes it leaves things behind like configuration settings or plug-ins that can cause problems. The default is C:\Program files\Mozilla Firefox
3. Next you'll want to delete the appdata for Firefox. In XP it is located at C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox
4. Delete all C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\FIREFOX* files

This is how to uninstall everything that Firefox leaves behind after an uninstall. Reboot, reinstall Firefox, report back.

Another way to access the Application Data folder is to type %appdata% into the Run dialog box (Start > Run, or press Windows Key+R). But don't press enter. Begin typing \mozilla. Then it will guess that you want %appdata%\Mozilla. Press down arrow to select it, then begin typing \Firefox. As soon as you press the Backslash key, it will show you the folder contents. Type f, then press down arrow to select the Firefox folder. Now begin typing \Profiles. Again, use down-arrow to select Profiles.

Now press the Backslash \ one more time and use the down-arrow key to select the folder name that has a random string which ends in .default. Once you have selected it, press Enter.

Note: you are now looking at the folder contents that you can copy/paste to a safe location should you ever need to reformat and want to have Firefox be just like it was before reformatting. So, you would copy/paste these files to somewhere safe (but not the ones you're looking at now since there could be something wrong with them), reformat, then install Firefox. Open Firefox, close it, and then put these files back in that folder.

Anyway, that's that.
