hello all,
__________________I am trying to record what I hear through my computer (mostly things like making youtube videos and my friends speaking on vent into sound boards) and I have run into a snag. When I attempt to record using audacity through "What U Hear" it gives me an "error while opening sound device." I have looked this error up through google and have changed the project rate, the number of channels and the recording device both on windows (currently running windows 7 home premium) and within audacity. None of the cookie-cutter solutions that I have tried thus far have worked. Before I attempt routing a wire from my output to input, I'd love to find a way to record what I hear. I am currently using a Creative Soundblaster X-Fi card. Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

I'm not familiar with Audacity, but I have done this using Sony Sound Forge 7.0. I then copied the .wav to a CD and that was all I had to do.
So, to begin with: do you have the "What U Hear" recording input selected, unmuted, and turned up at least halfway? 50% is an excellent place to record at. Actually, do you have the Console Launcher?

yes I have the console launcher, when I attempt to use the What U hear, it also gives an error "that device is busy."

When you're ready, press Record. When you press Stop, it will prompt you to give it a name and to choose where to save it to. If this works, then it could be something in Audicity that's preventing it from working. But if this doesn't work, then maybe the system needs to be rebooted.

Bit of a tacky workaround perhaps, but Fraps does this perfectly. I believe there is a setting for Audio only.

Are you trying to record Vent? Vent has a built-in recorder, and on Windows, it can convert recordings to WAV.
