Default Anyone Interested In Anodizing?

Hello everyone, I have been thinking about this for a while and I thought I would post up and see what you think about it. Most of the higher end cases are made out of aluminum and the outside of them are Anodized. For an example, I will use the TJ07. The outter case is anodized and the inside is bare aluminum. What would you think about getting your case anodized on teh inside to match the outside?

Now, this can only be done on aluminum. The acids that are used in this process will make steel go away lol. If you are interested in this, vote in teh poll and tell me why. I want to hear from everyone weather you want it or don't want it.

Is anodizing the process that makes the inside of Soldams look good color wise? The inside red and outside black for example (Sorry for odd reference, only time I've really heard the term)
Approx how much would it cost? More or less than powdercoating?

I'm not quite sure on the cost yet. But, it should be a little less than powdercoating just cause the supplies cost less. But, the time it takes to actually anodize a part is much longer.

Here are a few pics of some parts that have been anodized. I'm sure you have seen some of these.

So you'd be able to anodize the inside of the case a certain color and leave the outside black. Take a Lian Li as an example. I think that it'd be awesome to anodize the inside of my rocketfish some random color. Black wouldn't do it for me, it'd have to be blue, red, or purple. Something like that would have me seriously thinking about this.

Some parts we make at our shop we get anodized. You can anodize aluminum, titanium, magnesium, zinc, and the more exotic metals niobium, and tantalum.

Depending on the anodizer they will be able to make it almost any color you want. Other than being nice to look at it will make your aluminum case non-conductive
But I don't think they can make the inside of the case one color, and the outside another because they need to dip the whole thing into an acid bath when they anodize it.

I would like to get things anodized but the cost is an issue with me. I'm not just gonna get just 1 drive bezel done, I'm gonna do an entire chassis + panels + random accessories. It has to look 100 times better than paint for me to spend 20 times more than paint (professional/rattle cans)

The only way that I can do that is if you remove the pieces that you want coated. If they paint, powder coating, or anodizing on them already, that will have to be stripped off first. But, most of what you see that is silver that is in a case can be removed and I would be able to do it.

You are correct that you can get a lot more than aluminum but there are not that many people here that have a Ti case lol. I would love one, but holy crap, I think $200 is too much to spend on one . And you are correct on it making the case non conductive, but it's also possible to scratch through the coating just like paint and short something out. Just something to keep in mind.

Well, you see above in the pics that I posted what it will look like. Some don't like it, others love it. It's all up to you and what you think.

Is there any prep work required for the bare aluminum. I can strip apart the Rocketfish to where the bare chassis is all that is left. What would be a ball park figure on doing a full tower?

Right now, I'm not sure about a price. I had a person hit me up about this and I wanted to get a feel for what you all thought about the process. The aluminum (bare) would go through an acid bath to clean off anything that might be on it. Then it's put into the anodizing bath, and then into the dye bath. So, if the metal is bare, it's all up to me to put a color on it.
