To tell all of you the truth, I don't want to stop powder coating. I have done this for 5 years and I love the looks on peoples faces when they see the final product. But, with myself being the coater, I look it over a lot harder than any of you ever will. i will notice something that to you, doesn't matter, but to me, trashes the whole coating.

I have made a post in a few powder coating forums to find out what is causing this. I posted this case just cause the metallic makes the problem stand out a lot more. I'm looking into a high pressure steam cleaner that I can put my IP in and maybe that will help with some of the problems. But, I will post back when I figure this out. I still have 3 people to coat for, and one is this color, so I should have an answer soon.

A lot of us are that way. I am very critical about the work I do and it drives me crazy some times, but the customer always seems to be very happy with it. I guess that it is better that you are over critical then not.

As for this case, the pictures look great. I wanted something different then everyone else - that was all. Its better than the scratched up version that I shipped to you. After owning a couple Soldams I'm pretty unenthusiastic about any stock case that is <$200.

Bro, I feel you there. I have been working with Oblivion_Sky for a while now. I have made some custom pieces for his TJ07 and man, I want one of those cases lol. There is something about that thick aluminum that just has a hotness to it. And, I'm goign to be making another custom acrylic top for his so that will make me want it even more lol.

I got a response from the guy that owns the company where I get most of my powder. He is supposed to be calling me and we are going to see if we can get this worked out. I know that it's not the metal, cause I have had this problem on a lot of different metals. I know that it's not the powder, cause I have pics of it on black, and this color. But its done it on Blitz's case, adn just about every other case out there except Wasteds case.

Hopefully I can find out why it's doing this. Maybe it's my cure temps and how I rake up the temp while it's coating. On your doors, I stuck them in a non preheated oven adn they are just about as smooth as glass with almost no flaws in teh base coat. I have tried this same thing with other colors and metals and it's done the same thing as before. So, I'm going bald from pulling my hair out, and the hair left is turning grey. Hopefully I hear from him soon.

Hey TDN1979, Those pics of the probs you are haveing remind me of "fisheye" when painting, caused by oil or other contaminate.

Just wondering if your useing a degreaser before spraying?

Sorry if this has been asked but I'm not up on your forum.

Yeah, I use IP that is supposed to clean the metals before coating. But, I think I need the IP to be at about 212*F (boiling, or steam) in order for it to work right. I have done some tests with some aluminum caps and the results where flawless. So, I'm thinking about accepting a couple more cases for testing. But, I'm sure no one will be willing to do that.

You might want to give laquer thinner a shot. only thing I've found that cleans better than that is MEK but that's controlled.

I have both of those in my shop. I can get up to 4 gallons of MEK at a time. But, it's the rags that are the problem. No matter what rag it is, it will leave traces behind that jacks up a finish. And, if I find someting that actually does work, MEK is not cheap and I will have to charge more once again. I jsut don't think it's worth it anymore. The testing that I'm doing now are killing my bank account. And, I'm about to go back over the road so I won't be home to do this anymore anyway. So, it's just a matter of time before I'm no longer on here.
