Can't you lightly sand it and just primer/paint over it?

lightly sanding it will like 400 grit or even 800 will remove the paint or anodized finish.

Trust me on this, you don't need to remove the anodising to powder coat over it.

All the anodising needs is roughing up with some wet/dry to give it better adhesion, deffo no need to remove it.

If it's got paint on the externals get the coaters to burn it off first, it's standard practice.

To de-grease it, just use any normal degreasing agent, hell lighter fluid will work if need be.

Hmm... well this dude at this shop here in town told me it needed to be bare metal for him to be able to powder coat it... So today I dropped off my case at a local furniture restoration place with a chemical dunk tank thats dipping my HAF into it and removing the paint. I wish I knew ahead of time that the case did not need to be bare metal for powder coat to adhere too. Thank you all for the great info

the case does have to be bare steel. the local professional powdercoater near me was like don't worry about stripping we will sand blast it for you if its just standard spray paint.

In this scenario anodised aluminum is essentially bare metal anyway, theres nothing on it to stop the powder adhering onto it.

If you had spray painted it with rattle cans first then yeah that would need stripping but deffo not anodising.

Quote:
Anodizing increases corrosion resistance and wear resistance, and provides better adhesion for paint primers and glues than bare metal.

Update! So I have my HAF 932 sitting in a dunk tank and even in this industrial tank the paint wont come off....

I rattle canned the internals with this rust-o-leum and the black came right off but this other color "Paprika" wont, im going over today to see if his chemical bath has removed at least the rustoleum spray paint.

On to the HAF 932 case itself... your telling me its anodized and I can just rough it up and he can Powder coat right over the original black finish?

What is this case made of??? Aluminum or Steel?? Only aluminum can be anodized. If its steel it could be powdercoated already. You can sand off either one, just will take time. Anodizing is basicly a color that is soaked into the metal like .001"... so sanding would get you to shiny metal, though you CAN powercoat over it. Now its its steel, then talk to another sand plasting shop, there are lots of media's they can use for thinner metals. Also talk to a engine machine shop, and ask them if they can "hot tank' it for you. That stuff will take the skin off the bones.
