Quick question: Is there a difference in performance/ppd between say, Suse and Fedora Core 6? I am interested in doing this for my Core 2 build, and want to know which distribution works best.

Burn - Shouldn't be much of a difference, although you may see a slight increase in performance using the Debian based distros. Other than that, I'd go with whatever distro tickels your fancy.

One thing I found out last night... if you are going to install SUSE as a dual boot with P965 board or any other board that uses the JMicron controller you will need to load the hardware module prior to installation. This can be done from the first screen of the install cd, where you actually select install. There is an option to load hardware module, select it, then select the JMicron PATA controller. Otherwise SUSE will not recognize your instalation CD.

Ben - I noticed one thing that may need an edit, sorry I missed it before.
Where you have "just type ./fah5" to run the client, this will default CPU usage to less than 100%. The flag -verbosity didctates the priority of the client. Default is 3 (if you just type ./fah5), max is 9.

So for example, to run the client at maximum you would type:
./fah5 -verbosity 9

Sorry I missed that before, hope it helps!

I think it's safe to say you're the Chuck Norris of SMP How To's
Sorry Whodie, but Verbosity isn't for the priority of the client:
"-verbosity x:
Sets the output level, from 1 to 9 (max). The default is 3. This option should be used if the user wishes to see more detailed client output, particularly useful if there is a problem which needs to be reported to the F@H client development team."

This weekend I am going to try to get a section up for the installation of Ubuntu in VMware. Anyone have any other distros that you think I should add to this FAQ?
