Yea, it's slower. I think it's probably like bdattilo said, because it's running 32bit, instead of 64bit like vmware + linux does. I'm using vmware + 64bit ubuntu on both my rigs, since it's faster than Windows SMP.

Same here. I love the convenience of the WinSMP client, but I guess I'm not willing to sacrifice PPD

SMP through native Linux is the best though
When Linux is working at least... Im curious as to how fast it would be in native Linux on an OCed C2D or better, considering i get 22 minutes per percentage with my 2.4ghz Opteron 165.

You have to use the account name and password of your Windows Account.

Well you will have to put a password.
But if you don't want to input a password every time you start the computer, you can do the following: Start > Run > control userpasswords2 Uncheck the checkbox and it will ask you the account which you want it to auto login to.

well I put a password in and it looked like it was going to work, but now it can't extract the packet once it downloads... I'll have to play around some more

I see you are running Vista, do you have UAC disabled? I have to have UAC disabled to run F@H SMP on Vista.
(Start>Control Panel>Click User Accounts>Click User Accounts again>Click "Turn User Account Control On or Off">Uncheck the Box>Press Ok and Restart Now or Later, but you will have to Restart for it to work) When you ran install.bat after you set you password did you see a message twice? Its like "If you see this twice its working", something along those lines. That has to appear before it will work.

Hi Mebby,
Excellent guide except for one little thing. You must set the password first in Window XP. You have it listed last and in my case without the password being set in XP first the SMP client would not run. Then running the MSDOS.bat file with your user name and password and then running the FAH executable core program. I ws up and running in 5 minutes. It would not run until my password was set. I suspect that it's because Stanford wants to make sure you are the onwer of the computer or in Linux terms - You are the SU or Super User. That way no one can run these programs without permission on other computers unless those owners agree.. Anyway thanks for the guide, :-)
