just wondering, why do gpu's pull so many more teraflops? and what kind of points does the gpu client get?

GPUs are essentially massively parallel floating point processors. Each shader is like a mini CPU, and the X1900 has 48 of them.

The point system is set up to be fair to both CPU and GPU folders, so you do not earn a whole lot more than a CPU folder. Still, you are contributing a whole lot more to life-saving research, and that is what really counts.
