so i got F@H today, im about a quarter of the way through my first WU.
i just had a couple questions. 1. i need to post my name in the folding thread AFTER i complete my first WU and AFTER my name goes up on stanfords website? 2. what is the benefit of joining one of OCN's folding teams? like we have the big team ( all of OCN) but there are all of those smaller group teams i hear about. whats the purpose of those smaller teams, and how do i join one? edit- also, when im in the F@H display, the graphic and all the stats stay still, and then "glitch" and update about once every 6 seconds. is this normal? if not, will increasing my gpu core clock speed help out at all?

If you are folding for the right reason (finding cures, not high point scores) then you do not NEED a team at all (though it would be just fantastic if you joined the main OCN team 37726). To answer the first question, post your name in the folding forum after you are on the F@H website.

ive already joined up with 37726 but are the smaller teams like "sub-teams" of 37726 or different teams entirely????? if joining a smaller team means leaving the OCN one then i think not lol i dont fold really high-powered anyway....
but whats the point in joining a smaller team? u said "points scores"???? lol im a n00b i know

In the end the points and teams just add an element of fun. Look at it like other things that are good for you. You can work out just to get in shape, which is good for your body, or you can work out and compete in events. Either way, you are getting in shape, but for many, the added competition adds an element of excitement and pushes you to do more.

Each time you finish a WU, you get points. Some people only fold for the purpose of getting points, not for the research. If you look up your name on the F@H Statistics page, you can see how many points you have, and what your rank is. Assuming you are on Windows, just hold your mouse over the F@H logo on the taskbar and it will show how far you are in the specific WU as a fraction. The demoninator is the total frames, which is equal to the total points that WU is worth. For example: right now I am on p2416, at 167/250. That means that when this WU is finished, I will have 250 more points. Simple eh?

so if my icon says 600/4000 that means i have 600 frames complete, the WU is a total of 4000 frames, and when i finish it, i will earn 4000 points?
i think im getting the hang of this. is there like competitions (in teams) for low-end folders? i have a stock comp which my whole family uses, but i would also like to be competitive- after all, thats the fun part. however, i understand that winning stuff isnt the point. im not a snob lol.

I joined a little bit ago. I fold for OCN's main team. I have 1 work unit done and I'm working on the second one.
This Dell does WU's so slow. And it's only on 50% of the time. I can't wait to hook up the AM2 rig. It'll fold 3x faster.

Pros: I loaded up Bioshock and maxed out the settings, but this graphics slit the game's throat then ate it's entrails for dessert. It slammed Assassin's Creed's head onto the curb then stomped its head into that curb until it was nothing but a bloody pulp. This card is one bad mo-fo. It'll backhand your sister and degrade your mom, but they will still love it and want to date it because it is just that good. I love this card so much that I burned my tongue trying to french kiss it, and I still keep trying.

No... Not at all. It's still using your CPU and RAM.
