Default F@H Dual Core Tip

So, say you leave your dual core rig folding away during the day while at work and at night when sleeping like I do..

I've found that if I use the console client (less resources being used than graphical), run two instances, then set the affinity in Task Manager for one instance to CPU 0 and the other to CPU 1, I can get decently faster folding results.

It works even better if you set the F@H in-program priority higher than normal.

Try it out for a day and let me know if it speeds up your work progress.

EDIT:
BTW, I've noticed the two separate console clients can't be run from the same exact executable. Making a copy worked fine for me.

Another thing, not sure if this an violation of agreement. Let me know if it is.

More on this, straight from F@H website and using a alternative method:

Quote:
Does Folding@home run on dual processor or multi-core machines? Yes, you can in two ways. For linux or OSX/Intel, one can run our SMP client.

For other platforms, additional processors must run the console version (with the "-local" command-line argument if run on Windows). First, make additional directories for each processor and copy the FAH Console executable file into each. Then configure them with the -config switch, filling in settings for each. It is very important to make sure that under the "Advanced Settings" option each copy is given a unique machine ID (from 1 to 8). The first copy will default to a machine ID of 1, so additional copies should be given IDs of 2, 3, 4, etc. Each may then be run out of their installed directory, using the -local switch on windows.
If you try this, let me know which method performs betterm

If you change the Machine ID's, it theoretically does this for you.

It works, just requires a dual core. I tried it on my HT and it dropped performance by 25% or so.
