Soooo many factors involved, plus this GPU2 is Beta, so nothing is finalized.

BUT, from what I have seen so far

1. 8800 GTX/Ultra
2. 8800 GT 512
3. 8800GTS 640
4. 8800GTS 320

I just need to fold with it, I dont game.

looking at bang per buck whats the cheapest you think I should do? (in the 8800 series)

Best bang for buck folding wise would probably be an 8800GTS 512, I'm getting close to 6,000 PPD if I ran it 24/7 with no games.

MSI has the cheapest on newegg, along with someone called elitegroup or something...$209 + shipping

I just bought a few 8800GT's from newegg open box for $140, for testing.

I am hunting down a GTX, GTS, and Ultra to compare!

I am still waiting on the other shoe to drop...Stanford might very well CHANGE the points system to accomodate the SMP and ATI folder!

Where are you guys getting those PPD figures? I've already worked through 1 5000/5000 thing and now I'm already 3800/5000 on the next... I just see this:



Whenever I open the display my computer lags a little too, normal?

^^ Download Fahmon and as it says on the first page don't open the viewer, slows down the folding :P

Anyway.

Anyone running this and SMP?
I've been trying a few things but i'm pretty new to folding so i'm a little unsure what would give me the best results, i'm running the GPU client right now and 3 instances of SMP, It hasn't effected the performance of the GPU client or the SMP client, GPU client is finishing a WU in just under 30 minutes
and SMP is is erm 6 minutes per step..

I'd bet it's the gpu it's affecting, not the cpu. Displaying the little window and graphics.

He is right, for some reason I forgot all about 8800GTs, forget what I said about 8800GTSs being the best bang for buck
