Default help a folding newb?

Hi all. Could some of you astute folks take a look at my sig rig and let me know how best to fold for the OCN team? Right now I'm just running 2 basic text clients. I would greatly appreciate it!

Also...how do you use those tags things? (like -advmethods) I tried changing it, and I think I changed the file extension when I did it, then the program wouldn't run. Thanks in advance for the help!

CPU: Other than the single-cored client, there is also SMP. The SMP client is a multi-cored client which you would be allow to use more than one core to fold with. SMP yields much more points than the single core client, but it may take longer to fold on. My Q6600 at 3.31GHz does WU 2653 in 16.5 hours and 1760 points are given.

GPU: The NVIDIA folding client was recently released last week. With the right driver, you can produce around +5,000 PPD (Points Per Day) with your 8800GT if it is overclocked.

Overall, your system should be able to do both the SMP client and the GPU client. You should be able to produce 6-7k PPD if you run 24/7. With just my GTS 640MB, I am making 4,704 PPD. If I had SMP in with my rig, I can do 6-7k PPD as well.

Sorry about the tags, I have no knowledge about them.

If you are looking for guidelines on installing either the SMP client or the GPU client. I will do my best to help.

So...SMP will use both of my cores? I heard that the gpu client used some serious core power, is that right? My question being, can I run SMP AND GPU with just a dual-core? Thanks for the help TaiDinh, and I may have tons of questions later once I get around to changing the folding stuff on my rig.

no as the gpu client will take up some of the cpu cycles and probably wont finish in time but you can run a GPU client and 1 text cpu client like you are doing now

Well, looking at your sig rig, there might be a little problem for you running both the SMP and GPU client.

For some reason, almost all XP users running the NVIDIA client with 177.35 drivers are experiencing full load with one core. That means you'll only have one core on SMP. SMP with one core would be extremely slow.

For some reason, the NVIDIA client on Vista only uses around 7% of one core from my quad.

I think it's best to do one GPU client and one single core client.

Other than the XP-Vista thing, you should be good with the GPU client + one of your signle core client.

Cool, so one text + GPU will produce more PPD on my rig than one SMP? Thanks very much for the help. Bite, any help on the tag things? +reps
