Default So today I opened 12 brand spanking new computers...

I work for a major electronic retail store and I'm in charge of putting up new product displays and keeping the store looking good. I was setting up all these new computers today and then i had a crazy idea. "I wonder if I can fold with these babies." Now I know about the rules such as you can't fold without the consent of the owner so I've been debating on whether or not I should bring it up with my manger.

He's a pretty easy guy to approach but I wonder how I should explain what "folding" is. He's a pretty busy guy as you might have already guessed so I have to time it right so he can absorb all the info.

I was thinking of setting up the clients so that they only fold when the screen saver is active (which is most of the time). That way its all out of sight and out of mind. I was looking at these new models and I can't help but get excited about the numbers they could produce (latest models from almost all the oems). This idea is still in the rough so feel free to comment....

p.s. I've been counting in my head including laptops and older models of desktops and the number of machines is about 40, ranging from q6700's to athlonx2 6400 for desktops. Laptops I'm not too sure about.

Do it!

Doubt he'll say yes, but it never hurts to try!

Yeah....I would ask him first.

Because technically since they are in the store with your company's logo and under the ownership of your company at the current time, folding with them could technically insinuate that your company supports and condones folding and I doubt those types of decisions are made at the retail level but then again that's looking way into it but if one of the clients is up when it's running and someone asks, What's that?. Then your company assumes responsibility to not only informing the customer about what is folding and then it's assumed by the customer that your company supports it and it's something they should get into based on your company's recommendation.

Wow that's a hell of alot of assumptions.

Most people don't understand folding at all, so it's hard to convince them to do it. When you try to explain it to them, and they understand that they don't "get anything out of it", then they don't want to do it.

Well they already stay on all night...besides its not like he pays it I wonder how much the bill comes out to be with all that stuff running. I remember someone hooking up 4 plasma TV's to the same socket and having cables melting. Those plasmas can be pretty power hungry.

There's something to think about. Perhaps I can sell F@H as a way to improve the company's image to the public

You could use trayit which will run apps as a service in the taskbar. That way you can run smp or anything and have it "out of sight and out of mind."

Defiantly ask but this is a solution for keeping it on the DL for customers.
