Default My Folding Box

Ok so the wife and I just went though our garage about two weeks ago cleaning it out and we discovered we had some left of wood from remodeling one of our bathrooms. So I decided, hey, lets see if we can make something out of this scrap wood.

I did not draw out any plans, I just grabbed some wood took a few measurements and started cutting. After a few days things started taking shape. It has taken me two weeks to produce what you see in the following pictures (family, school, work, friends, etc take up alot of my extra time) and I finally have a clear picture in my head of what the final product will look like.

The 'Folding Box' (have not thought of a good name for it yet) will only hold four pc's. Two will be folding from a USB key and the other two will be running graphical clients. Each of the wooden motherboard trays slide out for easy access to work on or change out.

Additional work planned:

I will be painting the box black (maybe tonight)
I will be building a frame to hold either screen or cloth mesh on the three remaining open sides.
I will be adding black casters to the bottom to allow it to be moved around easily.
I will hopefully be able to add the overclock.net flame and folding at home logos to the front (Checking on that now).
I will also at some point be adding the actual pc's to the box

I will update whenever I complete any of the above steps, so for now enjoy.

A couple additional pics.

And yes I know the wood is split on my guides, but they still work very well ( I made them too then )

Currently Running:
* Phenom X4 9850 BE @ 2.9GHz, 4 GB DDR2-1066, Folding 24/7 (2x Linux SMP through VMWare) + Sapphire Toxic HD3870 GPU2, Folding 24/7
* AMD X2 5600+ @ 2.8 GHz, 2 GB DDR2-800, Folding 24/7 (Linux SMP through VMWare)
* AMD X2 3600+ @ 2.38 GHz, 1 GB DDR2-800, Folding 24/7 (Linux SMP - NotFred)
* P4 @ 2.8 GHz, 1.5 GB DDR, Folding 24/7 (Windows console)
* P4 @ 3.2 GHz, 2 GB DDR, Folding 24/7 (2x Windows console)
* P4 @ 3.45 GHz, 2 GB DDR2 with a Sapphire HD3870 GPU2 Folding 24/7
* PS3 Folding 24/7

I also have a P4 @ 3.7 GHz, 2 GB DDR, that will be folding 24/7 with Windows console that will go in the box as well. Then when the new SB750 boards come out I am replacing the MSI board that holds my Phenom and use that board and a Phenom X3 to run SMP and GPU2 at the same time as the final folding pc in the box. After that I start upgrading/replacing old ones as money allows.

Those with the red asterisk are the ones that are going into the folding box until I get the funds to replace them.

Thanks!

It was kinda fun trying to take scrap wood and scrap computer parts (talking mostly about the P4's) and trying to put something together.

I can't wait till it's finished (wish I was home now working on it).

Thanks!

Well I painted it black last night. I didn't take any pictures, but is there really any needed, just picture the images above, but black

I was thinking about airflow and what I was imagining was to install four fans, one in each compartment to pull air from the front, over over the motherboard and components and expel it out that back. The fan(s) will of course be installed in the back. Also since I plan on running to GPU2 clients with video cards in the box I thought that maybe I should install fans to blow on the cards. I am not really sure about any of this or even if it is necessary. What do guys think.

Also anyone have a good idea of what I can build the frame to hold the screen or cloth mesh out of. It needs to be light weight but sturdy enough to where I can easily pull the whole thing off when I need to work on or change components in the box.
