Ok guys... n00b here!
I have not started folding yet but plain on doing so this week. I am sure I will have many questions... But to start with: With my sig system and knowing that I like to game (about 2~3 hours a day) what client/s would you suggest I use? (SMP?) Do you have any advice for n00bs? (that is not in the OP) From my understanding the HD4850 is not currently working well with folding (Not sure if it is driver or client issues??)... When and where will I look for this to change?

SMP would indeed be the recommended client.
I personally would go with this method described in this thread here: http://www.overclock.net/overclock-n...ntu-guide.html Don't be too alarmed. It isn't as hard as it seems. Just read the thread, and the instructions are quite easy to follow. It's the least intrusive and best performing SMP method I've seen so far. And welcome to the forums ![]()

i think here http://foldingforum.org/viewforum.ph...3607d992d95896
will be the best place to watch for improvements to the client.

Oh, with the method I linked you to: do note that you will need to enable 'virtualization technology' in the BIOS (aka vanderpool technology).

So can I use the SMP client and the GPU2 client at the same time?
If I can not which is better the SMP or GPU2? (That is once the HD4850 drivers are sorted out)

even without any driver optimisations your gpu will smoke your cpu.
you can run both at the same time tho.

For now, I'd fold on the CPU only (SMP) and wait for a better ATI client.

not *that* bad, but about on par with SMP I'd say. Plus, the 4850 has some cooling issues afaik, so I'd be a bit wary folding on it 24/7.
