New Folding Parts
I went looking for a motherboard to replace the one I have running my P4 524 since it has no overclocking abilities and I am only able to get just under 1100 PPD from my 3870. I found what I think is a decent motherboard, but while I was there I ran accross what I thought was a good deal on a CPU to go with it.
Anyway since I caved and just bought the pair thinking my P4 was also a bottleneck I am wondering if I really did get a good enough deal. If anyone has a comparison to the folding power of the proc and it's overclocking ability paired with this type board it would be appreciated. Just trying to figure out if I shoud use that proc to feed my 3870 like it was before or just run SMP. Going Broke Overclocking

The sad thing is a crappy single core MB with a PCIe and an 8800GT for $70 from newegg will kick any Quad/dual -smp systems butt.

Well I thought about getting a 8800, but I really think the P4 is limiting my 3870 as it is. I mean I was able to overclock the P4 using SetFSB from 3.06 to 3.45 and it increased about 200 PPD (from about 890 ish to 1090 ish), hence the reason I was getting a new motherboard so I could overclock better. As I was looking though I got to thinking that the P4 may still not be able to feed the card good enough to put out the necessary points so I started looking at other processors and that is what I ended up with.

The 4400+ system is only using 25% load with a 8800GT folding.
