Hey all -
I figured since I have a couple spare computers I would put them to good use and start folding! I plan on running them 24/7. I went to http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Download It said "Recommended software (based on information furnished by your browser)" Which are: -NVIDIA 590 SLI MB -4600+ AMD Athlon X2 AM2 -8600GTS -3 GB RAM I should use Windows 2000/XP/Vista Graphical client or Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista text-only console (with built-in Windows-service-install option) I went ahead and chose the graphical client, but I thought I was suppose to use Windows SMP since I have a dual core? It never showed the option to use that. I have already started folding with the graphical client...seems like it is going to take FOREVER to finish 1 WU. Any tips or suggestions? Am I doing using the correct client? Since I have dual cores, should I open it up twice, 1 for each core? All help is appreciated. THANK YOU! ![]() EDIT: Will I be able to fold on my 8600 GTS also?

With your sig rig, you should use SMP. There's a link to "High Performance Clients" at the bottom of that download page you found.
You should be able to fold with your GTS with hacked/modded INF drivers that can be found rather easily. Here are the drivers: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...howtopic=19272. I assume that you're using it in your sig rig? If not, tell me the OS (32/64bit?) and I'll get you the right link. ~Gooda~

Well, I wasn't planning to be folding on my sig rig...but it is still an option I would possible do...after I get this other rig going full speed and I get the hang of FAH. I want to setup with this rig (Specs): Nvidia 590 Mobo, AMD 4600+ X2, 8600GTS, 3 GB RAM, Vista 64bit. Do you still recommend the SMP client for that rig too? Is the drivers a basic setup for the GTS like the graphical client is? Thanks for the help! ![]()

I would recommend just GPU folding on the machine with the 8600GTS. The CPU won't put out that much PPD.
You download the drivers and install them. Restart and install the GPU2 client from Stanford and away you go ![]() http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandeg...tray-612b8.msi ~Gooda~

He could run a single console version, plus the GPU2. It should be able to handle that ok..

The GPU takes a fair share of CPU cycles as well. While he could run a console version, I'm not sure if it would make deadlines. I don't really use the console client ever...what's the minimum deadline?

I had a 866Mhz P3 box crunching the console, and it made deadlines. Surely his x2 could, right?
As far as the deadline, I believe that varies on the WU your on.

I will go ahead and wait for my first WU to finish...I started it yesterday afternoon and it looks like it is suppose to finish at about 2am tomorrow, Friday. Don't know where the deadline is at though?
I will then delete the graphical client when its 1st WU is finished. Do I need to send or do anything to the WU when it has finished its 1st unit, or is it all done automatically and starts onto the 2nd WU? After I stop it, i'll switch to GPU/Console client then, right? Sorry for any confusion! Thanks for all the help!

It should upload by itself.
Download fahmon...here. It'll tell you all the information on a WU (including deadlines. ~Gooda~
