I have an old dell gen 4 system
its a p4 3.7ghz extream edition with hyperthreading and i have a 8800gt in it is that ok for a 24/7 gpu2 rig what kind of ppd should i expect? whats the best way to set it up?

right now im getting 4200 ppd with the 8800gt and the 177.83 drivers does that sound about right?

I just oc'd the card to 710 core 1775 shader and 950 memory and this wu is giving me 5184 ppd. That seems to be about what it should be. Just curious but my 8800gt is slower than the 3870 i have in my quad core setup but yet its more then double the ppd why is that?

well first of, the 8800gt is faster than a 3870, it just seems slower cause of that dog slow p4. as for the ppd difference, its either the nvidia client or the drivers.

Pretty comparable cards. Unfortunately the ATI drivers are doggy right now. That seems like pretty respectable points with the 8800GT. I average right at 5K a day with mine at 699/1699. Considering you have a P4 as a cpu that's great. Don't think you would get much of a boost even with a core2 or quad core, maybe a couple hundred points a day. That's a big maybe. Might be able to SMP fold on the CPU with a Quad or Core2 though.

ATI's Folding has nothing to do with drivers.
Its the folding clients.
38xx does what it can with the 300 shaders it has.
48xx only uses the volume of shaders the 38xx has because the cleint is written for up to the 300 shaders the 38xx has.

yes, they need to write new clients that will maximize the performance for the 48xx series cards. - a lot of power is going unused

well the p4 dosn't seem to be holding back the card, im only using like 60% cpu and the card is over 5000 ppd at all times so far. I think its good enough for now being i only had to buy the 8800 to get it up and running again. thanx for the explanation about the two diffrent cards.
