Default Passkey what and how to.

Passkey assures you your points are yours!
To attain direct information on passkey , otherwise, here is some basic info on it from the link which have the Bold title text

What is a passkey?

The passkey, a new feature beginning with the v6 FAH client, is a unique identifier that ties your contributions directly to you (not just those with your username). The use of a passkey prevents others from cheating in your name. Obtain a passkey from our web site (see below), enter it when you configure the client, and the client and servers will do the rest. You should keep your passkey secret.

Where can I get a passkey?

http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/getpasskey.py

My

Sometimes a copy/paste don't work, no idea why but...
I keep my Passkey on a simple Word Pad (never tried Note Pad oddly enough).

One Passkey is verbatim for copy/paste.
The second Passkey is modded with a space evey 3 characters so its easier to read and type. Just don't use the spaces when typing it!

Hope this helps answer your questions about Passkey

FYI, there is a possibillity that additional points will be awarded for future Passkey use. (See the underline I added to the text)

What is the purpose of a passkey?

Previously we have not had unique identifiers in Folding@home (usernames for example can be shared by many people). One main benefit of passkeys is that if someone cheats, we will not need to zero out the points of everyone with that username -- only the offending party and those without passkeys. Perhaps more interestingly, we plan to shortly institute credit bonuses, which will be tied to passkeys. Finally, the existence of passkeys opens up future possibility of displaying your individual credit and other information, rather than just by username.

Well done Duke. There has been alot of members questioning what it's for, and what to do. Since this is very helpful and informative, I think it would come in handy if I put it in the essentials thread.

Question. If I have been folding for awhile, and today choose to get a passkey could my previous stats be potentially deleted?
