Default Cloaked Folding

Ok so heres the story, my parents aging HP from like 02 finally croaked (PSU blew, motherboards gone). So my dad started looking at retail computers, mainly the quad core ones because that suddenly makes them better . So i told them that i could build them the exact same computer (without the same case and such) for at least $200 bucks off so i got on the egg and built numerous systems from $500-$1000 (they were looking for cheap ). So yesterday they left town go to sams club (we usually buy bulk their) and came back with a 17" POS Dell. I FREAKED.

SPECS:
17" 1440x900 LCD (wth? not even 1650x1050)
2.0GHz PD (no core 2 duo)
3GB RAM
160 5400RPM (no 7200 = fail)
Integrated intel graphics

The laptop is an udder complete fail..

/rant

So now that you know my situation you should know how to help me, i need to find a way to SMP fold without my parents knowing (like not in the taskbar and such). Someone in vent talked about installing it as a directory but i didn't understand it. Please help *JaKe*

Can't return it?

Could try removing the taskbar icons... not sure if you can isolate the F@H one and only remove that one, though.

You could install SMP as a service and set it so it starts manualy so you can just switch it on and off whenever you please?

Actualy now i've thought about it, it may not be a good idea

I don't think that 2.0Ghz PD wouldn't finish SMP units within the deadline, not sure if the normal client can be run as a service, i'll check now D;

EDIT: Actualy it can, when configuring FAH it asks 'Launch automatically, install as a service in this directory (yes/no) [no]?'

Just choose yes, then go into services find the FAH service and set it to start manualy, simple

You'll just have to go into services each time you want to stop and start it, or you could create two .bat files to turn it on and off, just hide them somewhere they won't find them ;x

This is what I had in my .bat file to start it 'net start "Folding@home-CPU-[1]"' just replace start with stop for the one to switch it off, the service name may be different for you though, also I did this in vista so i'm unsure about XP, my sig rig is out of action for a while so I can't check

To answer most of your questions: (1) a fridge cannot cool a PC (2) 64-bit OS for over 3.4GB (3) If a PCIe card fits, it should work (4) Resolution, not screen size (5) If you have a question, it is not news (6) Report, not respond to Spam (7) Single-Rail/Non-Modular PSUs are not always better than Multi-Rail/Modular
