Sounds like you should go back to: install the NVIDIA driver. And get a copy of any error you might see.

For uninstalling the CUDA nvidia drivers, the following sucked it out in no time flat :

And heres some screenies of my error messages:

Have you tried Ubuntu? Because that's what the guide was written for.

nope, and thats my bad, everything else worked, but i'll figure it out eventually.

I can't be of that much help if it's Linux Mint. I will say that you did miss an important step, and that is to install all available updates, at least to level 3, prior to installing the NVIDIA driver.

I did follow the same software update process in MINT as is avaliable in ubuntu.
__________________A couple things I've noticed... the 32-bit compatibility libraries are being inserted into the correct place by the installer. It says it can't find them but it is putting them there. However, the files are 2.4 kb. That to me smacks of a problem. Perhaps I can simply find copies of the emulated drivers and put them in the correct place and go from there? everything installed, it just showed errors on those three files.
